Why I'm Running

Dear Friend,

On August 3, we began our campaign to take back the First Congressional District of Virginia. As we set out on this mission, I am reaching out to all of our partners in this effort to talk about our campaign. My roots in Virginia’s Northern Neck instilled within me the value of honesty, hard work, and accountability. In building my family, improving my community, and serving my country these were the principles that guided me, and they will be the guiding principles of our campaign.

In the few days we have had, the foundation has been laid to spread our message throughout the district. Our campaign has launched an ambitious outreach effort to engage residents and build a strong base of support. We have recruited a campaign staff whose experience demonstrates their knowledge and competence in rural and southern districts.

Most importantly, we have been actively listening.

I have had a remarkable opportunity to learn from people from all across the district. It is their voices and concerns about the direction our country is heading that motivates this campaign. The common thread is the concern over the lack of jobs and economic security. This cadence is uttered nowhere more loudly than in my childhood home.

I grew up in Heathsville, Northumberland County, where I worked on a “fishin’ boat” as a kid to make money. After attending Northumberland High School and Catawba College, I chose to serve my country in the United States Army. For twenty-five years, I protected my nation around the world and retired with the rank of Colonel. My years of service reaffirmed in me that hard work and accountability lead to achievement.

We all know that whether you are leading families, firms, or formations, hard work and accountability matter. These lessons don’t matter only when working on a boat or serving in the military, but in the halls of the Capitol. The people of our region know this too and are ready for someone who truly represents them, a Congressman who understands the meaning of hard work. Our founding fathers recognized the importance of these values and made them core tenets of our democracy. All too often in the tangle of modern political discourse, people lose sight of these values upon which our country was founded.

Over the next fifteen months, we will work to bring hard work and accountability back to the forefront of the American political system. But we cannot achieve this goal without your help. That is why, I need to turn to you now and ask for your commitment. I urge you to stand up, to sign up, to volunteer, and to contribute to our campaign.

I am excited for the road ahead and earning the support of the people of Virginia’s First Congressional District. More importantly, I look forward to you to joining our team. Thank you for everything you are doing to help us win.

Very Respectfully,

T. Scott Robinson
