Scott Robinson - In the pursuit of service.

From the fishing boat he worked on as a kid in the deep waters of the Chesapeake Bay to the halls of the Pentagon where he rose to the rank of Colonel, Scott’s life has been built on one guiding principle: Work hard and stay resilient in your pursuit to serve others. Every step throughout his life, his education, his work -- have prepared him, since childhood, for a front line role for solving the challenges that confront our nation today.

Whether it was as a deck hand on the Betty Mae out of Lottsburg in the Northern Neck, high school and college sports and on to a twenty-five year career of service to our country in the U.S. Army, Scott’s decisions and actions have proven his commitment to hard work and demonstrated an inherent ability for leadership.

Scott and his brother Jimmy grew up in Heathsville, the county seat of Northumberland County, where their mother, Lois worked at the Northumberland Farm Bureau and stepfather, Floyd Bramble, worked as a waterman. While attending Callao Elementary and Northumberland Junior High, Scott earned his spending money by hauling up pound nets and crab pots. That work instilled in him an appreciation for the value of persistence in honest work and a passion for preserving the health of the Chesapeake Bay.

During high school, Scott played football, baseball, and basketball. While he was usually the smallest player on the court or field, it never stopped him from establishing a record of results. After graduating in 1979, he studied at Catawba College, in Salisbury, North Carolina, where he majored in chemistry, played baseball, and joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps. It was here, in a shared physics class, where he met Sandy Wilson. In another testament to Scott’s determination, Sandy eventually accepted an invitation for a date and upon graduation the two were married and have been together ever since.

Following his graduation and the completion of his ROTC training, Scott was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and he dedicated himself to serving our country. For 25 years he filled assignments around the world all the while never ceasing his pursuit of education. He would earn both an MBA and an MS degree in national resource strategy.

Scott’s final assignment was at the Pentagon in the role as Senior Military Adviser to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Scott interacted with officials of other Executive Branch agencies as well as congressional leaders to manage policy development regarding weapons of mass destruction. Scott retired in July of 2009.

Today, Scott and Sandy reside in Tappahannock, Essex County, where they are active in community affairs. Scott organized the 30-year reunion for Northumberland High School’s Class of 1979. He is also active in the Rotary Club, American Legion, and the Military Officers Association of America.

Scott’s mother and brother still live close by, in Northumberland County.

Why I'm Running

On August 3, we began our campaign to take back the First Congressional District of Virginia. As we set out on this mission, I am reaching out to all of our partners in this effort to talk about our campaign. My roots in Virginia’s Northern Neck instilled within me the value of honesty, hard work, and accountability. In building my family, improving my community, and serving my country these were the principles that guided me, and they will be the guiding principles of our campaign.
