The Follow Through Matters

Posted on March 9th, 2010 by Scott Robinson.

Back when I played basketball at Northumberland High School, I knew I wasn’t the biggest or the fastest player on the court. But I knew two things: I would always outwork the opposition and I always remembered that the follow through on my shot mattered. And that has been my approach in this campaign. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Rep. Rob Wittman in Congress.
Last month, he told a group of citizens looking to improve our local economy, that he was going to make sure access to broadband internet was made available to the entire 1st congressional district of Virginia. Days later, that same group had their federal grant application rejected for funds to do just that. Rob Wittman took no responsibility. He blamed the group for not finding the private sector matching funds. Well for those of you who are on Twitter, that’s what we call a #FAIL.

When It Comes To Broadband Access, Rob Wittman Is A Disconnect

TAPPAHANNOCK, Va – It is the classic case of a member of congress telling his constituents one thing and then failing to follow through with action. At a public roundtable discussion held in Warsaw on Feb. 2, Rep. Rob Wittman told an audience that bringing broadband access throughout the 1st congressional district was one of his top priorities.

National Debt

Posted on February 8th, 2010 by Scott Robinson.

Last week the U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill that raised the legal limit on Government borrowing by $1.9 trillion (a tax bill of $6,000 for every American). The debt limit increase will keep the Government from defaulting for another year. The national debt was pushed to $14.3 trillion – a total bill of $40,000 for every American. As a Government we are borrowing more than 40 cents for every dollar we spend.

Danger, Robinson

By Shira Toeplitz, CQ-Roll Call January, 21 2010

Scott Robinson, the Democrat running in Virginia’s 1st district against Rep. Rob Wittman (R-
Va.), has hired Greg Richardson to be his campaign manager. Richardson served in the same role
for Paul Carmouche’s bid in the 2008 open-seat race that freshman Rep. John Fleming (R-La.)
won, as well as Will Pryor’s bid against Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) in 2006.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day/National Day of Service

Posted on January 18th, 2010 by Scott Robinson.

Today we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As Americans we have the opportunity to honor a man who led our country on a path of non-violent social change. He once wrote “if a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live”. Dr. King understood this and gave his life not only for African-Americans, but for all Americans. For this sacrifice, we are all grateful.

Afghanistan

After President Obama’s Afghanistan Speech I was asked by U.S. News and World Report blogger Julie Piscittelli what I thought of the speech. I answered, “I think what we heard in the President’s speech are some hard cold facts about the world we live in. I know it is easy for people on both sides to live in the moment of this and look at it purely through political lenses, but we need to be more measured than that. I think that the President found a balanced approach with his plan. He addressed the Afghanistan government, the military surge and Pakistan. As a 25 year retired Colonel, I intend to support our commander in-chief. As a citizen, I will be watching very closely...

There was a smart message in Obama's Afghanistan speech this week: Regardless of how we got here, or who got us here, this is how it is right now so let's get down to the business of facing facts, and facing reality.

Thanksgiving

Posted on November 25th, 2009 by Scott Robinson.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year. Traditionally at Thanksgiving most people think of family, food, and football. As a child, my family would go to my grandmother's house for Thanksgiving. The day would start with deer hunting and end with a traditional turkey dinner complete with all the southern side dishes (greens, corn bread, oysters in the dressing, etc.).

Why I'm Running

On August 3, we began our campaign to take back the First Congressional District of Virginia. As we set out on this mission, I am reaching out to all of our partners in this effort to talk about our campaign. My roots in Virginia’s Northern Neck instilled within me the value of honesty, hard work, and accountability. In building my family, improving my community, and serving my country these were the principles that guided me, and they will be the guiding principles of our campaign.
